Abstract

Muralism in Toluca is part of the cultural movement called Mexican muralism; which emerged at the beginning of the 20th century during the Porfiriato, although its popularization was during the Mexican revolution, and what it is about is a cultural and historical manifesto about the identity of the city and the customs and traditions that have marked the history of our country. In Toluca has not been the exception either, artists have intervened in places that represent historical value in the city. Although not many people take it seriously; This may be due to various situations, including: that they do not understand the meaning of the messages, that they do not pay attention to them, that the location of the artistic intervention is not appropriate, however for people who study art and design, mainly in illustration, such as a dance, a historical fact of the city, or a beautiful landscape, they have learned the use of the meaning of the graphic message. Muralism is like a source of enlightened cultural conservation that could not be felt during the times that marked the history of our city, such as the archaeological ruins due to the cultures that were present in our city, as well as the colonial era of our city, there are. some murals that decide to mix with the history, culture and environment of the city, an example is the mural located in Plaza Toltzu which is the union of several cultural movements and places in the city united in the same mural, there are other murals in fact by other people who use it for other benefits and have nothing to do with culture and history. But muralism in Toluca is what mainly unites our cultural identity throughout history.
