Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a disorder characterized by significant restriction of food intake leading to noticeable underweight, fear of gaining weight, and alterations in body self-image. It has the second highest mortality rate among psychiatric diseases, after opioid use disorder. The results of the current management strategies for this disorder are less than optimal, with more than half of the treated patients failing to remission, with data suggesting that the results obtained have not improved significantly in the last 50 years. The objective of this work is to investigate some recent advances in the nutritional treatment of AN. A thorough search of scientific articles was carried out on internet pages such as: PubMed, Redalyc, Google Academic, Scielo and ElSevier; which were collected since 2020. Six articles were found according to the objective. Studies show that high-calorie refeeding for patients hospitalized for AN is more beneficial in several ways than low-calorie refeeding, although refeeding that uses lower carbohydrates (same calories) shows less decrease in serum phosphate. The results are not conclusive. The benefits in the treatment of AN obtained in the short term should not be considered definitive.
