Abstract

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a global action plan that involves all countries, governments, civil society, the private sector, international organizations and citizens in the implementation of concrete actions to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability. The objective of this research was to describe the sustainability actions implemented by SMEs in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs in the framework of the 2030 Agenda. A sample of 103 companies in the tourism sector was considered with a confidence level of 95% and 5% error. The research was conducted under a quantitative approach with a descriptive scope, non-experimental cross-sectional design. For data collection, a questionnaire was used as a face-to-face survey with a high Cronbach's Alpha reliability (α=0.957), composed of nine sections, two of which refer to socio-demographic data on the respondent and the company, and seven corresponding to the actions and policies implemented by the companies to promote sustainability and social responsibility, evaluated using a Likert-type scale with values from 1 to 4 (not done to always done). The results show that most companies are not aware of the SDGs, commitments to promote the contribution to the SDGs are of little relevance and that company policies have little influence of a sustainability approach. It is concluded that the contribution towards achieving the SDGs is incipient and the implementation of these measures does not guarantee success in promoting sustainability and social responsibility.
