The intestinal microbiota, the set of microorganisms that live in our intestine, plays a fundamental role in general health and well-being. In childhood, this microbial community is in full development and is especially susceptible to external factors such as diet, antibiotics and infections. Objective: determine the use of probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics in childhood. Methodology: a thorough search of six scientific articles was carried out on internet pages such as: pubmed, redalyc, google academic, scielo and elsevier; which were collected since 2020. Results: Over time, more research indicates that the use of probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics in childhood, as a way to improve intestinal health, can confer benefits to prevent and treat various gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases.
