Abstract

This article explores the impact of reduced working hours on micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Mexico, considering their adaptability, organizational resilience, and technological adoption. Through a systematic literature review, contextual analysis, and 200 semi-structured interviews, key challenges are identified, such as low levels of technological literacy, the perception that reforms only benefit workers, and limited knowledge of available digital tools. Although technological solutions such as automation and artificial intelligence exist, many MSMEs lack the resources or training to implement them. The findings highlight the need for institutional strategies that promote a gradual and equitable transition. The article concludes that for the reform to be viable and sustainable, training, technical support, and public policies that consider the operational realities of MSMEs without compromising their productivity or stability are essential.
