Abstract

Currently, studies associated with territorial development show great importance to local space as a determining and important variable to resolve development issues that national governments have normally failed to minimize. That is why this research takes place in the province of Guantánamo and assumes as a general objective: to diagnose the relevance of the Territorial Information System as a development management tool for decision making in the province of Guantánamo. For this, theoretical and empirical methods were used such as: analysis and synthesis, historical - logical, induction - deduction, techniques such as the questionnaire and SPSS (version 22.0) for data processing. The questionnaire applied was proposed by the project “Why and how the development observatory with a territorial approach is implemented”, registered in the National Local Development Program in Cuba, which is executed in the eastern provinces of the country. As a result of the investigation, it is concluded that the majority of the items analyzed in the questionnaire were evaluated with deficiencies, evidencing the existence of deficiencies in the system that require subsequent monitoring to solve them.
