This agenda is materialized in the different countries where it is implemented with a focus on local development. Objective: Develop a procedure to evaluate the alignment of the Municipal Development Strategy with the Sustainable Development Objectives in the municipality of Cabaiguán, in the province of Sancti Spíritus in Cuba. Methods: A set of methods and techniques were applied to develop the research to the main decision-makers of the municipality, such as surveys and interviews. Results: The result of the implementation of the procedure, which became a work tool for science-based governance, made it possible to determine the level of knowledge that the different actors of the Cabaiguán municipality have about the Municipal Development Strategy and the 2030 Agenda, making it possible the alignment of the Strategic Lines defined with the Sustainable Development Goals, goals and indicators included in said Agenda and provided the government executives in this instance with the necessary information to correct the identified deviations. Conclusions: It is concluded that the territorialization of the Sustainable Development Goals, goals and possible indicators in the Municipal Development Strategy is insufficient and the need for training of the different actors to contribute to this alignment.
