Abstract

The initial problem addressed by this research focused on the insufficient integration of contextualized environmental content in the curriculum of the General Geography subject in the tenth grade of the Cuban pre-university level, which is viewed as a limitation to strengthening students' environmental education. The main objective was to design and implement an investigative activity proposal aimed at enhancing students’ environmental knowledge and attitudes, fostering their active participation in identifying and solving local environmental problems. To achieve these results, participatory action research was combined with scientific methods such as direct observation, interviews, and surveys. The proposal included observation of the community environment, problem-based questioning, the use of specific procedures to analyze concrete cases, and the development of environmental action proposals. This approach promoted collaborative work, student leadership, and strengthened values such as responsibility and solidarity. As a result, environmental education was coherently contextualized within the curriculum for this educational level, aligning with the National Strategy for Sustainable Development. Additionally, it contributed to increasing students’ motivation, awareness, and commitment, achieving a positive impact on their environment and revealing essential content for their comprehensive education.
